How many battery hens die a year?

Approximately 100 million laying hens die in the US each year. According to the United Egg Producers, there are about 300 million laying hens in the US, and about one-third of them die each year. Most of these deaths are due to natural causes, such as old age, disease, or injury. However, some hens also die due to abuse or neglect.
