Why do all living creatures have to breath whether they live in land or water?

Not all living creatures have to breathe. Some organisms, like certain types of bacteria and archaea, are anaerobic and do not require oxygen to survive. These organisms can live in environments where there is no oxygen, such as deep in the ocean or in the soil.
