Do flies have eyes in the back of their heads?

Yes, flies have compound eyes that cover most of the top and sides of their head. Each eye is made up of many tiny lenses, called ommatidia, and each ommatidium can see in a slightly different direction. This gives flies a very wide field of vision, but it also means that they can only see objects clearly that are close to them.
