What is the bone density of a bird?

Birds have a very high ratio of bone to body mass. In general, their bones weigh twice as much as mammalian bone, even after allowing for the air spaces which are a feature of bird bones. Thus, an ostrich which weighs about 115 kilograms has a skeleton weighing 15 kilograms, approximately. This density is the result of the presence of more bone tissue in the skeleton.
