Why do male beta fins fall off?

Beta fins do not fall off. It is possible for a betta fish to sustain an injury by biting it off, an aggressive betta roommate attacking the fragile fin or a betta being caught in decorations tearing the fins. Some fish diseases can cause the fins to rot and deteriorate.
