Why is the state Turkey named turkey?

There is no state in the US called Turkey. The country of Turkey is named after the Turkic people, who migrated to the region in the 11th century. The word "turkey" is derived from the Old French word "turquie," which in turn comes from the Arabic word "turkiyya."
