Are male hawks always larger than female hawks?

The answer is: No.

Sexual dimorphism is the difference in physical characteristics between males and females of the same species. In some bird species, males are larger than females, while in others females are larger. In hawks, the opposite is true. Female hawks are typically larger than male hawks. This difference in size is thought to be due to the fact that female hawks need to be able to carry larger prey.
