When did the saber-toothed cats disappear?

Saber-toothed cats (Smilodon) were a diverse group of extinct feliforms that are best known for their characteristic long saber-like upper canines. Saber-toothed cats lived during the Miocene, Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs, and they became extinct around 10,000 years ago during the last ice age.
