Can you give dogs or cats lice?

Humans cannot give lice to dogs or cats. The lice that infest humans (Pediculus humanus capitis) are adapted to live on human skin and hair and are not able to survive on other animals. Similarly, the lice that infest dogs (Canis familiaris) and cats (Felis catus) are species-specific and cannot infest humans.
