Why is it if you breed the black Labrador and cream colored producing chocolate brown puppies?

Breeding a black Labrador and a cream-colored Labrador will not produce chocolate brown puppies. The resulting puppies would be either black or cream. Chocolate brown is a distinct color in Labrador retrievers and is not produced by breeding black and cream Labradors.
