How rare is an Emu?

The emu (_Dromaius novaehollandiae_) is the largest bird native to Australia. It is the second-largest extant bird to still exist after the ostrich. While it is not considered a rare species, its population has been declining due to habitat loss and hunting. Estimates suggest that there are around 725,000 to 1,250,000 emus in Australia.
