Are dogs an open or closed system?

Closed system.

A closed system is a system that does not exchange matter with its surroundings. Dogs are closed systems because they do not exchange matter with their surroundings. They take in food and water from their surroundings, but they do not release any matter back into their surroundings. They release energy in the form of heat, however.
