The only fox species found in Australia is the red fox (Vulpes vulpes), which was introduced from Europe in the 19th century. They are now found throughout mainland Australia, except for the wet tropics of north Queensland.
Red foxes are considered an invasive species and have had a devastating impact on native wildlife, particularly small mammals.
