What is a hermit crab mite?

Hermit crab mites are small, parasitic crustaceans that attach themselves to the exoskeletons of hermit crabs. They are found on the gills, in the mantle cavity, and on the limbs of hermit crabs. While hermit crab mites can cause skin irritation and disease in hermit crabs, they are usually regarded as harmless.
