How are blue whales young born?

Blue whales give birth to live calves. The calves are born after a gestation period of about 10-12 months. They are born head-first and weigh about 2,500-3,000 kilograms (5,500-6,600 pounds). The calves are able to swim immediately after birth and they nurse from their mothers for about 6-8 months.
