Why did the archaefructus become extinct?

The Archaefructus is not yet known to have actually gone extinct - instead, the plant is one of several species (the most recent discovery was in 2009) which continues to be discovered in China's Liaoning Province, dating back about 125 Mya to the Lower Cretaceous era.
