Where does the word cheetah come from?

The word 'cheetah' comes from the Sanskrit word 'citrakāya', which means 'variegated body'. This term was used to describe the animal's distinctive spotted coat. Later, the word was corrupted to 'chita' in Hindi and Urdu, from where it was brought into English by British colonists.
