Do mountain lions live in Virginia?

Mountain lions, also known as cougars, pumas, or catamounts, were once native to Virginia. However, the last confirmed sighting in Virginia was in 1882. Due to habitat loss and human persecution, mountain lions are now considered extirpated from the state.
