Do chickens produce milk for their young?

Chickens do not produce milk like mammals do. Instead, they lay eggs from which the chicks hatch. These eggs contain a self-contained source of nutrients that enables the developing embryos to grow and hatch into fully formed chicks. The newly hatched chicks are immediately able to feed themselves, primarily through the consumption of grains, seeds, and insects.
