What are the advantages of plants being able to catch and digest animals as well photosynthesise?

There are no plants that can both photosynthesize and digest animals. Some carnivorous plants, such as the Venus flytrap, can lure and trap insects, but they obtain nutrients from the insects through decomposition rather than digestion.
