Are deer and buck the same thing?

Deer and buck are not the same thing. Deer is the general name for a wide variety of hoofed mammals, including both males and females. Buck, on the other hand, refers specifically to male deer, including those that have antlers. In other words, all bucks are deer, but not all deer are bucks.
