How hungry should a ferret be to hunt?

Ferrets should not be fed before hunting, as they will not be motivated to hunt if they are not hungry. However, they should not be so hungry that they are desperate, as this can make them reckless and more likely to get injured. Ferrets should be hunted between 12-16 hours after their last meal.
