Do sea horses lay eggs or give birth to live young?

Seahorses are unique among all fish species in that the male seahorse is responsible for carrying and giving birth to live young. The female seahorse lays her eggs into a special pouch located on the underside of the male's body, where they are fertilized and develop. The male then carries the eggs until they hatch and the young seahorses are born fully developed.
