Why do male cheetahs leave the female cheetahs?

Male and female cheetahs do not form permanent bonds or pairs. Cheetah cubs stay with their mothers for about 18-24 months before becoming independent. Male cubs leave their mother's territory first, establishing their own territories away from her. Female cubs might stay in their mother's territory for a longer period or establish territories adjacent to their mother.
