Where do Japanese fighting fish come from?

Japanese fighting fish, also known as Siamese fighting fish, actually originate from Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand.

While they're often called "Japanese" fighting fish, this is a misnomer. They were introduced to Japan later on, and the name likely stuck due to their popularity in the Japanese aquarium hobby.
