Why electric eels electrocute the whole sea?

Electric eels do not electrocute the whole sea. They generate electric discharges as a defense mechanism against predators or to stun their prey, but the range and intensity of their electric field are limited. The maximum recorded voltage of an electric eel is around 860 volts, and the electric field generated by a single eel typically extends only a few meters around its body.
