Why would the fossils of an ocean fish found on two diffrent continents not be good evidence continental drift?

Finding fossils of the same ocean fish species on different continents is compelling evidence supporting the theory of continental drift. If the continents were once connected, it would be expected to find similar fossils in areas that are now separated.
