* Common hippopotamus or Hippopotamus amphibius: Found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is the third-largest land mammal after the African elephant and the white rhinoceros.
* Pygmy hippopotamus or Choeropsis liberiensis: Found only in lowland rainforests and wetlands of Western Africa, including Liberia and Sierra Leone. Much smaller than the common hippo.
