How do moles breath underground?

Moles do not breathe underground. They create tunnels and burrows near the surface of the ground, and they come up to the surface regularly to breathe air. Moles have a high metabolic rate and require a lot of oxygen, so they cannot survive for long periods of time without access to fresh air.
