How many wild pandas are there?

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there were approximately 1,864 giant pandas in the wild as of 2014, distributed among 31 subpopulations in the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu in China. Giant pandas live in temperate forests at altitudes of 1,500-4,000 meters (4,900-13,100 ft).
