Can you mate hares with rabbits?

Hares and rabbits cannot successfully interbreed. They belong to different genera: hares belong to the *Lepus* genus and rabbits to the *Oryctolagus* and *Sylvilagus* genera. Interspecies breeding between these genera is not possible due to genetic incompatibilities.
