What kind of animal is a kookaburra?

Kookaburra is a bird. It is native to Australia. There are four recognized species within the genus Dacelo in the kingfisher family, Halcyonidae. They are large forest kingfishers that have distinctive calls that resemble human laughter, leading to their common name, the laughing kookaburra.
