What are two things make viruses different to plants and animals?

1. Viruses are not cells. They do not have a cell membrane, cytoplasm, or nucleus. Instead, they are made up of a protein coat that encloses a core of genetic material.

2. Viruses cannot reproduce on their own. They need to infect a living cell in order to replicate. Once inside a cell, the virus uses the cell's machinery to make copies of itself.
