How big is a downy woodpecker?

Downy woodpeckers are small birds, averaging between 6.3 and 7.6 inches (16 and 19 centimeters) in length. They have a wingspan of around 10.5 to 12 inches (27 to 30 centimeters). Downy woodpeckers typically weigh between 0.8 and 1.5 ounces (22 and 43 grams). They are slightly smaller than their close relatives, the hairy woodpeckers.
