How long do squirrels stay in the nest?

Squirrels typically stay in the nest for about 8 weeks. After that, they will leave the nest and start to explore their surroundings. They will still rely on their mother for food and protection, but they will gradually become more independent. By the time they are 12 weeks old, they will be fully weaned and able to live on their own.
