How does a puma survive in the desert?

While Pumas or Mountain Lions can be found in desert regions, they mainly inhabit forested areas to mountainous terrain and even swampy, mangrove habitats of Florida; their range extends in Canada. This would suggest desert regions would only house these large felines on occasion rather than as inhabitants.
