What happens if your hermits claw falls off while molting?

Hermit crab claws and legs usually regenerate in a few molts. In the meantime, the crab may hide itself in the substrate until it is more confident with its regeneration. Sometimes, the other leg or claw on the same side also ends up autotomized.
