How did the wedge tail eagle get its name?

The wedge-tailed eagle (_Aquila audax_) is endemic to Australia and does not have a tail shaped like a wedge. Instead, adult wedge-tailed eagles are named for their wedge-shaped tail coverts or tail under-plumage which are only visible when standing in front of and slightly below the raptor; it has a wedge-shaped tail.
