How many breeds of domestic cats are there?

The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA), one of the world's largest cat registries, currently recognizes 43 breeds of domestic cat. Some other organizations, such as The International Cat Association (TICA) and the Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe), recognize a slightly different number of breeds.
