What is a breeding share?

A breeding share or stud share represents partial ownership in a breeding animal, usually a stallion, but sometimes also a mare, bull, ram or boar. When a breeding mare owner, for example, decides to breed a certain stallion, the two parties might agree on a partnership with the brood mare owner retaining, say, 20% ownership, of eventual foals.
