Are there killer whales in Maine?

Killer whales, scientifically known as Orcinus orca, have been occasionally recorded in the Gulf of Maine and its estuaries, with confirmed sightings near Lubec, York, Rockland, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill Bay, Eastport, Mount Desert Island, and Campobello Island in the early 1990s, as well as a 2020 sighting in Kennebunkport.
