How do giraffes avoid having their tongues pricked by sharp acacia leaves?

Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence to suggest that giraffes eat the leaves of acacia trees, which do indeed have sharp thorns. Giraffes primarily feed on leaves and buds of various trees and shrubs, particularly those that are softer and less thorny.
