How did horses get up north to Canada?

Horses were not native to the Americas, and so they did not get to Canada on their own. They were introduced to the continent by European settlers, likely the Spanish in the 1500s. These settlers brought horses with them for transportation and military purposes. Over time, horses spread throughout the Americas, including to Canada.
