Why do sharks have a 2nd dorsal fin?

Not all sharks have a second dorsal fin. Some species, such as the great white shark and the hammerhead shark, do have a second dorsal fin, while others, such as the nurse shark and the whale shark, do not. The second dorsal fin is thought to have evolved as a way to increase stability while swimming. It also helps sharks to maneuver more quickly and to make sharp turns.
