Why is bone ash good for fertilization?

Bone ash is poor for use as a plant fertilizer because it is practically insoluble in water and can't be absorbed by plant roots. Bone meal is a fertilizer produced by grinding animal bones into a powder and is the preferred product for its agricultural value.
