Does a platypus mark or protect its territory?

Platypuses establish and actively defend territories as part of their social behavior. The male platypus holds and aggressively defends territories during certain months. Each territory includes multiple burrows dug near a female's home on suitable sections of a waterway and may overlap partially but never entirely with those of neighbors.
