What happens when a gerbil loses their tooth?

Gerbils have continuously growing incisor teeth, like many rodents. These teeth grow about 5 inches, or 12.7 centimeters, per year. This rapid growth means that gerbils don't lose their teeth. Instead, they wear them down by gnawing on hard objects, such as toys or wooden chews.
