Are possums of the rodent family?

Possums are not part of the rodent family. They belong to the marsupial family, order _Didelphimorphia_. Possums are the largest marsupial family in the Americas and the largest marsupial family outside of Australia. Marsupials are mammals that give birth to live young, which are very small and underdeveloped at birth and continue to develop in a pouch on the mother's body.
