Why did the manatte become endangered?

The manatee did not become endangered. Manatees have been listed as an endangered species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act since 1979 and as a threatened species under the IUCN Red List since 1972. This is due to the many threats they face, including loss of habitat, hunting, and entanglement in fishing gear.
