Why would a beaver and raccoon mate?

Beavers and raccoons are different species and cannot mate. They are in different families:

* Beavers are rodents in the Castoridae family.

* Raccoons are carnivorans in the Procyonidae family.

Like humans and dogs, they are too genetically distinct to produce offspring.
